NASA Found Buried Ice on Mars!
Incredible news from NASA. They found thick ice deposits exposed to the surface in several sites around the planet by using the High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter!
Beautiful, isn't it?
This is really big news because future colonies should have access to any substance that can generate water simply because it's too expensive to deliver water from Earth. The sites are located in both northern and southern hemispheres of Mars, at latitudes which are equivalent on Earth to Scotland or the tip of South America.
Eroding slopes:
Based on previous observations of Mars' climate history, the ice was likely deposited as snow long time ago.
“There is shallow ground ice under roughly a third of the Martian surface, which records the recent history of Mars,” said the study's lead author, Colin Dundas of the U.S. Geological Survey's Astrogeology Science Center in Flagstaff, Arizona. "What we’ve seen here are cross-sections through the ice that give us a 3-D view with more detail than ever before.”
