Steem Powered Street Photography?

in #blog6 years ago

I want to write a long, long article about this, but I wont, because I know for sure that most people wont read an article as long as I have in mind. Heck, I wouldn't read an article that long either. At least not to the end.

The short gist of it is this; I've been wondering if Steem could support a street photographer. I mean really support them. Can Steem pay their rent, bills and feed them? This is the question I've ben pondering.

I've seen a few articles about this on here recently and in the past. When the price of Steem was "high" ($4 and up), the answer was mostly "yes". Yes, of course. Especially if you've got enough Steem Power to self upvote relentlessly.

Oh, merry Christmas by the way. Do you like my Santa hat?

Nowadays, the answer is most probably "no". The idea just isn't feasible at this Steem price unless, of course, you're a whale. In that case, there are probably easier ways of making money on here than putting up photography content.

I've had this dream for a while now; to have a source of income that is secure and sufficient such that I could live a financially free life forever. Under such conditions, I would then be free to dive fully into my street photography hobby, without the desire or need to ever monetise it. This was when I was totally obsessed with street photography. I used to do it every day; early in the morning on the way to work, during my lunch break, and after work. Every day!

These days, I'm less obsessed with it. I only do it once in a while when I have the time. I spend most of my photography hobby time testing vintage cameras and trying out new film, so street photography has taken a back seat for now. I've tried marrying the two, but film is expensive see.

Which brings me to another point. Can Steem sustain a street photography hobby using film then? That is a more achievable goal I think. With rent and groceries taken out of the equation, it may actually be viable. I'd do the maths here, but like I said in the first paragraph, I wont make this too long.

I have that same type of dream. Before crypto, I quit my job at a bank to thrift and upcycle for a living. It’s paid all of the bills and allowed me to be completely free, giving me the freedom to play baseball and be in a band without being drained from corporate life. Maybe Steem isn’t the answer at these prices, but if the platform survives with price recovery, certainly with the right relationships. I’m the meantime, try to find ways to monetize hobbies so you can support your true passions more comfortably.

Feel free to see my blog for thrifting and upcycling examples.

Wow that's amazing actually. I'm sure our stories are quite similar. I also used to work at a big bank in the city. It drained my soul to the point where I had to leave. I did some thrifting myself back when I was just finding my feet after leaving the city. I'll definitely check your blog, cheers.

Steem can in the long run...maybe not at the moment though. I liked your xmas hat...lol. Cheers

Thank you haha. Maybe I can make some extra dough as Santa. I've got the belly for it :)

hehehehehehe....don't do it! You'll only lose money buying gifts to stow away under people's trees...or handout to demanding kids

Yikes! You're right. haha.

A really short & nice article... I am of the opinion that Steem can't sustain a street photography who uses film instead of the usual digital camera at this early stage of cryptocurrency adoption.
Happy Christmas & A Happy New Year!

Same to you :)

Oh man can you imagine what a wonderful world it would be if everyone could spend their days doing what they love and then just monetize it on Steemit to cover their expenses? I guess this is what I have been trying to achieve too but as you said the in post, it is extremely hard (if not impossible) with these prices...

We live in hope :)

Hmm I really like an idea that I've read a lot lately is called universal income. They were 2 countries trying it and both failed to implement. In the crypto ecosystem I see it like a pool of coins put together to help humans thrive rather than survive. With the help of the whales I am sure is possible to sustain more than just one street photographer. Second thing I just want to mention that freedom and feeling of peace is an inside job and doesn't relate to having a job or working yourself off as a freelancer. Serenity is achieved when you have time to look for it, that time can be between 2 breaths at work ;) Just saying..
