Calcium Awareness For Our Body Health

Introduction

Happy weekend to you readers all over the world! My name is Ade while on this platform, I am known as @adeade. I am here to discuss 'calcium.' Before I begin, I will quickly do what I always do in all my discussions - describing my keywords as they are used in the piece. Here are the keywords:

  • Health: this means to be free from physical or psychological illnesses.

  • Deficiency: something essential to health that is inadequate or insufficient.

  • Severe: something that is very bad.

To begin with, let me describe what is meant by calcium. Calcium is a soft, silvery-white alkaline earth metal which can be found in nature as silicate in rocks and as carbonate in limestone. It is one of the earth's known elements. In chemical science, it is denoted as 'Ca' and has an atomic number of 20.

💥How calcium is beneficial for good health.

The health benefits of calcium is unlimited. In addition to maintaining strong bone and teeth and playing an overall well-being of the body, calcium also play a crucial role in maintaining the overall body functioning such as:

  • Nerve signaling: which is the process by which nerve cells in the body communicate with each other and with other cells in the body through generated electrical signals.

  • Blood clothing: which is the process by which a network of fiber is created by the blood in order to prevent further blood loss.

  • Muscle contraction: which is the process whereby the force and movements are generated by the muscles when there are changes in length and contraction.

💥Give some examples of Calcium rich food

As it has been put earlier that calcium is an important element (mineral) that contributes immensely to the proper functioning of the body system, there are, however, lots of foods where the mineral can be derived. These foods are known as calcium rich foods. They are:

  • Dairy products: these include - cheese, milk, yogurt, etc

  • Fishes: these include - anchovies, salmon, sardines, etc.

  • Fruits: these include: guava, oranges, dates, figs, kiwis, etc.

  • Green leafy vegetables: these include - kale, spinach, collard greens and bok choy, etc.

  • Nuts and seeds: these include: sesame, almond, chia seeds, pistachios, etc.

It is worthy to note that the list is inexhaustible. These are just a few among others.

💥Problems that may be caused by deficiency of calcium

The deficiency of calcium (known as hypocalcemia) in the body could lead to severe health issues or complications. Some of the complications are:

  • Bone problem: deficiency of calcium could result in reduction of bone density or weak bone. The health condition, known as osteoporosis, can cause bone fractures, severe pains or brittle bone.

  • Muscle problem: calcium deficiency could lead to any of the following muscles related issues such as: arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), convulsions, spasms, cramps, numbness or tingling, etc.

In conclusion, calcium is one of the very vital elements (minerals) required for the proper functioning of the body. The level of these essential elements which the body cannot do without should not be allowed to go low. We should always try to consume food that contains these essential minerals for our body to function properly.
