Sleep paralysis vs witchcraft
People often regard sleep paralysis to be the hand work of witchcraft especially where I come from.
But today am writing a post to prove that not all sleep paralysis is associated with witchcraft.
When I was a child I was exposed to African movies. "of course you know how it goes". This movies were so diabolical and scary for me as a child. At some point I'll have to cover my face while watching.
It really affected my perception toward people especially the elderly once.
they elderly ones were witches and wizards in my eyes.
If you're a child who grew up in the 90's you've come across movies like
- Above dead,
- Karashika,
- Blood for blood,
- ikodo,
- Last burial. Etc
This movies to me didn't have any positive effect on me rather it created fear.
Often times I'll find it very difficult to step into a dark room. It went as far as painting some domestic animals like Cat as evil because of their coloured eyes at night. Some birds where included too.
Bat, vultures etc
They was a night after watching one of the series I tried to sleep but couldn't, then suddenly I couldn't move my body, I tried shouting but it didn't help. In the morning I shared my problem with my parent and I was taken to church for counseling. They said it was associated with witchcraft.
This has always been my view towards this kind of thing whenever I get stories from other victims.
One day as I was reading online I came across sleep paralysis, it's shocking what I found.
Sleep paralysis:
Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions, you may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Some people may also feel pressure or a sense of choking. Sleep paralysis may accompany other sleep disorders such as narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is an overpowering need to sleep caused by a problem with the brain's ability to regulate sleep.
Am not saying that witchcraft doesn't exist but at times we might be wrong in our judgement.
Thank you.
