Introducing Japanese crab snack - Kanikko

After staying being in Japan for many years, leaving the country was sad in particular missing the food. Today I want to introduce a snack I received from a friend who knows me very well and bought them for me. To many western countries, these snacks may be something you won't try but in Japan, it is a nice snack that goes well with a nice cold beer or sake. This is small fried sweet crab snacks.

The snacks are made from real baby crab which is fried till they are extra crunchy which then seasoning a layer of honey will be placed on each crab. The moment you munch on one of them, you can instantly taste the crabby taste hitting your pallet. The sweet honey around the crab balances the concentrated crab taste. It gets a little chewy too due to the texture of the crab and honey coating.

The ingredient shown on the pack includes crab, soy sauce and seasonings. Although they are delicious, I can imagine eating many of them will affect your cholesterol as you are eating the whole crab including the internals (the yummiest part). Remember the internals are inside the crab so they are all high cholesterol parts when eating them in large volume.

Don't see them as a moving crab rather a small bite-size snack you can gobble down quickly over a nice drink with friends. They are not expensive in Japan and can be found in many stores and supermarket easily.
