One of the most ancient animals is the Tapir
Today our heroes are the TAPIRS. They, unlike a nice and funny gibbon, did not allow themselves to be approached. They had dinner, and they were not up to me :-) However, after taking a walk in the park and a little waiting, I still photographed them. They are in the safari park is not a small area.
And they live here not one, not two, but as many as 5 tapirs. Tapirs are a genus of herbivores, a squad of ungulates. This is one of the most ancient animals, they inhabit our planet for about 60 million years. Previously, they lived virtually throughout the Earth, but today they are found only in the southeast regions of Asia and South America, this species is threatened with extinction, so they began to breed in such private zoos.
Our tapir belongs to the plains or South American tapirs. And he lives in the tropical forests of the Amazon, located east of the Andes.
In South American tapirs, the coat is dark brown, with the legs and stomach lighter than the back and sides. There are no stains on the body. Tapirs are very large animals, she herself saw such for the first time. And in height they reach 100-110 centimeters. They weigh well, up to 250 kilograms.
They were very cheerful to watch, then slowly moved with their feet, then they would gallop, but they hardly reacted to visitors, they live according to their schedule. They do what they want, and when they want to!
This one generally lay and lay for 15 minutes, many tried to activate it, but at least that's what! Did not want to take part in our photo shoot - in any.
In the wild, this species has a huge number of enemies: jaguars, cougars, caimans and anacondas. From large cats tapirs are saved in the water, but from anaconda and crocodiles there it is almost impossible to be rescued, because they perfectly hunt in the water.
