Zombie Writing Contest - Part III

It's my first time writing a zombie story. I did the best I could. Please don't be offended by the end.

The shock of the explosion threw the bike off the road and everything went black. The cry of the baby made Foxy come to. She groggily sat up, touching her head. Her body felt like it had been run over by something massive and she felt blood running down her face from her forehead. She checked the baby and breathed a sign of relief to see she was okay.

"Please stop crying, you would be okay" She repeated over and over as she rocked the baby slowly in her arms.

Suddenly, she came to realize Eagle was not with her.

"Eagle, Eagle...where are you?"

"Eagle! Please, say something. Let me know you are okay." She cried desperately, searching in all directions in the darkness.

Suddenly, she tripped over something and fell over. It was her quick reflexes that saved the baby from falling off her arms.

She breathed a sigh of relief, better her than the baby getting hurt. Foxy won't be happy with that. Thankfully, the baby had stopped crying by now and was just cooing happily. She smiled to herself but that faded as she made to get up to find poor Eagle. She crouched back quickly.

In the distance, she could make out some figures walking. On a closer look, she realised they were zombies! She stifled a scream and started shivering, praying the baby won't start crying.

In a whisper, she called out to Eagle, "Please, if you can hear me, stay where you are. Don't move please. You know i can't do this alone.I need your strength please."

She kept praying Eagle stayed put as tears poured down her face.

A low moan interrupted her prayers.

"Eagle?"

"Ooh, is that you Foxy? Are you okay? Is the baby okay? Where are you? I am blind here."

"Please stay quiet. There are zombies going down the road out of town. I would make my way towards you."

They both shed tears of joy as they embraced each other. Eagle had hurt her leg in the fall and so could not walk.

They were thinking of the next cause of action when they heard a strange sound behind them. They went still with fear and with great trepidation looked back.

It was the child's mother...now a zombie now. A wide dark hole was where her stomach should be, dripping out black liquid.

She looked terrible, snarling like an animal. Her face was ghostly white and teeth stained with dark blood.The sight of her was terrifying. She reached for the baby who was sleeping.

Foxy and Eagle scrambled back on their butts, shaking with terror and concern for the child.

"Where is that gun when you need it? "

"A gun won't help, remember the others on the road. It would give away our location."

"So what do we do? Should we just hand her back her child for dinner?" Foxy asked.

It was almost on top of them now.Foxy and Eagle were searching for something...anything that would help them without giving their position away.

The zombie caught Foxy's foot and smiled victoriously in the dark.

"So zombies do smile, it really is terrifying!" Foxy thought .

She struggled with renewed strength as the stench caught her nose.

She passed the baby to Eagle and kicked the zombie with vigor. But it was useless...it was too strong. Slowly, the zombie made her way up her body, cold smelly flesh that nauseated her. Poor Foxy was scared out of her mind.

"Eagle, take the baby and leave. Please take good care of her. You cannot save me now."

"I am not leaving you here to die with Miss Smelly so just shut up." Eagle screamed in reply.

Then she struck gold just as "Miss Smelly" licked blood off Foxy's face. Her hands found an old shovel lost in the woods.

With renewed strength, she dropped the baby and hit the Zombie on the head. Foxy helped push it away from her body. She kept hitting the head till there was nothing left but pieces of smelly flesh and mashed up brains with a lot of black smelly blood.

Foxy was retching where she laid down but was otherwise okay.

"Did she bite you? Please tell me she didn't," Eagle asked.

"You saved me just in time, my darling. I owe my life to you"

Eagle breathed a sign of relief.

"Don't thank me yet. We are not safe till we find others."

"Oh my God!"

"What is it?"

"Look! They are leaving the road! They are coming in our direction! What do we do?"

"You have to leave me, i would only slow you down. My leg is useless for now. Please take the baby and run."

"No...i am not leaving you to die here. You are strong, you can make it" Foxy cried, tears pouring down her face.
"We leave together or i go nowhere"

"Would you be reasonable? What chances do we have against them? Look they are too many, à gun would be useless. Just go and i would die knowing you would be safe. Promise me you would be safe...please. I am begging you."

With tears in her eyes, Foxy left her friend to the mercy of an army of zombies. She ran through the darkness with the baby on her back who thankfully was sleeping blissfully.

Eagle's screams stopped her in her tracks and she knew her friend was gone. Fresh tears streamed down her face and she started running again. Her friend's sacrifice must not be in vain, she thought. She would live and so also would the child. That thought gave her strength and she ran as if she was flying on eagle's wings.
