My First Zap! The Answer to Life, The Universe, and Everything... (Important Notice Inside)
Do you know what's deliciously ironic? Crypto devs and celebrities preaching about decentralisation through centrally-managed platforms like Facebook, Medium, Twitter, and Reddit. I know Steemit can be ugly sometimes and Steem is still rough around the edges, but I'd say that it's a fundamentally good blueprint to build on. Drop your ego, look past your disagreements, and see this protocol for what it is. Delegated Proof-of-Stake has been working in returning capital back to users of the platform, decentralising itself as time goes by. Support free media just by using the Steem network!
Sure, it's a shame that it's facing some technical difficulties recently. But that's the price of pushing boundaries. We still have squeaky wheels here and there. Devs are working on it around the block! Regardless, we definitely could use more brains and everything else to keep improving the game. We need more users and communication. Anyway..
Today a friend mentioned that he hopes that announcements during Steemfest will send Steem to the moon. I'm a man of risk, but I've always tried not to leave matters to chance alone. Instead of putting too much hope in others, one must also do what they can for the cause. So here's what I said.
Use the platform more often :P
More activity leads to more value. Ain't rocket science. So follow my alt-account @etherpunk for quickfire, edgy, and microvaluable 240-character sound bites. I'll actually start zapping in that account when Zappl starts working for me! This account remains for my usual stuff: macro-blog posts with more than 240 characters that usually takes forever to produce...
Important Notice:
I've just got notified that passwords used on Zappl are actually sent to their server so it's rather insecure at the moment. Either avoid using it until it's fixed or at most, only use your posting key of an alt-account if you want to try it out! Same applies to any Steem-based applications that request for your password. Becareful and understand what you're getting into before providing your key / password.
I guess I was a lucky person to become aware of Steemit and, when it was introduced to me, I was told from the get go that it was still in Beta mode. This last term was also explained in short ones and it was underlined for me that this platform is still in its infancy and has yet years of development to go through. I still take it as is in this fashion. It has made leaps and bounds since its inception and can't wait to see what is around the corner with us here on Steemit.com
Do you still remember Facebook and its first steps, in Beta modes? It feels and seems like eons and, in some ways, it is, but if we are to relate this phenomena to what is happening here on Steemit.com, I can't help it, I have no worries and am excited about our future together building and growing in strength and number, value and reputation, quality and power.
All for one and one for all! Namaste :)
I wonder if UIs and the backend will somehow manage near-instantaneous votes and resolution under 3 seconds sometime in the future. As of now, kinda feels like triple of that with the lag. But yeah all good although pretty frustrating to use, will just keep using regardless. Namaste :D
I hear you! Namaste :)
I think shorter post are more enjoyable to write and to read so I definitely look forward to seeing that from you. What's with the 240 character "limit" (why that specific number), maybe it's something obvious but I don't get it :)
Twitter's magic sauce is based on 140 chars, recently also supporting 240 characters although it's the less popular format and statistically less-read compared to 140 char. But i guess with Steem's incentivisation, 240 would be more detailed and contain more information to work better as a comms tool. The joke is that Deep Thought dreamed up the number 42 and if we reflect on it as base-10 creatures, we end up decrypting the message from 42 to 240 lol
I don't use twitter so at least it wasn't obvious to me :)
@kevinwong - Very well said in the 240 character limit! I see the irony of people preaching about decentralisation using centralised platforms. I have been frustrated at times with Steemit issues and Steem price but I always remember that we are in Beta and the underlying concept is worth fighting for. These days blogs do not get seen as much and upvotes are low but I carry on with my wildlife passion and try to keep producing quality content. If nothing else, I feel satisfied that I am doing my bit to support the concept
Thanks for this excellent brief reminder of why everyone should commit to Steemit. Upvoted full
Regards,
@vm2904
Yes! this is exactly what I say, some peploe complains in less than 0.4 secs when something is working wrong. I know lately steemit have been a bit of a pain in the ass but right now, we need to remember we are still in Beta
Also yes, I've been hearing a lot about Steemfest, the offical app and all of these things that would make STEEM up again. I know it would be a push but I agree 100% with you, I've been saying this a lot but we need to use more Steemit and also we need to leave good feedback too. Like real engadgment comments and votes.
That's the way to get caught with a good feeling on here.
Can I just use Zap from my normal account as well? Still wondering how to use it
Yes you can, just make sure you're only using your private posting key and not general / active key for the login in the Zappl interface btw..
Thank you for the fast reply.
And good advice. Cheers
So if I post on Zappl.com can we see that posts on the Steemit.com website too or will it be limited for Zappl sites?
It's posted on the Steem blockchain.
I remember steemit will find its own character, away from the concept of facebook, wiki or blogspot. Steemit is the future, now just starting. I believe ;)
I have tried @zappl, sounds interesting. I could say that social media umbrella under Steem is growing!
Definitely is! Dont see how else it's gonna work now lol
An alt. account is definitely the way to go (please, everyone!)
Very good reminder to all of us to use the site more and, also, how fortunate we are to have this base to build on and, even better, to pay for our content!
Created an account for my game to make zaps about updates and the game play. This works pretty well actually. Go figure.
So separated macro / micro blog accounts is a good arrangement yea? Just kinda bothersome to handle 2 if I go through with this..
Not only that but your fans may like one over the other. So they'd rather choose the account they prefer. Instead of sifting through the posts with the blog length they aren't as hot about.
