Yahoo chat room was one of the oldest social media on the internet. Every 90's child might be aware of Yahoo Messenger and people who were the first to chat with them. Yahoo Messenger was the first to distribute dopamine free of charge on the internet. Yahoo messenger was Accessible by Yahoo Id or user id which was also accessible on other services by Yahoo such as Yahoo Mail. Yahoo! also offered functions such as PC-to-PC, PC-to-Phone and Phone-to-PC services including file transfers, webcam hosting, text messaging service, and finally chat rooms.

As of December 14, 2012, all the chat rooms were closed by Yahoo primarily to update features in Messenger. On March 27, 2016, Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris clients were not available or closed and only supported devices are the Android, iOS and web browser clients. Finally, Yahoo Messenger was shut down on July 17, 2018.
