8 tips for starting on YouTube and Facebook (video)

There are no clear rules for how to get started on a YouTube channel or podcast. Here are some things I learnt through trial and error, and sage advice from a few friends. I know some of these sound simple, but these tips, the Facebook tips especially, can make a huge difference for your new project.

1. Get an awesome logo.
   Branding is important. You can get a high quality logo designed on Fiverr or Upwork for $50-$100.
2. Set up a website that looks cool.
   There are literally thousands of WordPress templates that you can obtain for free or for a low cost, but if you don't have graphic design experience, it may not be obvious which ones are really going to appeal to potential subscribers. Make sure to ask your designer and artist friends what they think.
3. Use Auphonic to improve your audio quality
   Many podcasts and YouTube channels suffer from poorly edited audio, and getting high quality recordings isn't always easy. You can use Auphonic to clean up your audio and set the levels, much cheaper than learning to edit your audio or hiring an audio engineer. The first 2 hours of audio per month is free.
4. A cool intro
   Use Fiverr or Upwork to get someone who can make a cool animation or music for you.
5. Make and share memes on Facebook
   As a wise man once said, a kind meme can warm the longest winter. It probably sounds simple, but having putting a meme per day on your Facebook page can literally make the difference between a page with 300 likes, and a page with 30,000 likes.
6. Facebook page alliances
   Find similar pages on Facebook and ask them to trade editor privileges, and you can quickly double both of your audiences.
7. Facebook groups
   Share your memes and posts on relevant Facebook groups so people of like mind can enjoy them.
8. The Chrome "Invite all" plug-in
   Don't try to invite all your friends manually to your Facebook page. Save time and get a machine to do it. Then find fans or friends who have a lot of contacts, and ask them to invite their lists too. This can quickly get you to your first 1000 likes.
