The highest ranking video on their platform has gained over 133K views over the last year, and it's still there.

And yes there are legit reasons for converting youtube videos to mp3, like wanting to listen to someone's content like a podcast or even capturing the audio for free sound effects or copyright free music.

But really it's just YouTube protecting its control over the platform.
