When Do You Become Old?

What do you look for in another person? Young and handsome? Young and pretty?

Does the age of the person count? When are you too old to learn or lead?

This man, Mahathir Mohamed is 93 years old and he is still fit and healthy. He is still very sharp mentally. He was Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1981 to 2003 for 22 years and now he is back to be the next interim Prime Minister because of the present incompetent and greedy leader. An amount of 2.6 billion Malaysian dollars were deposited his personal account and within a few weeks the money disappeared. He claimed that the money was returned to the doner.

Most people including Tun Dr Mahathir believed that the money came from Malaysian Sovereign Fund, a company founded by the prime Minister and siphoned to other individual and returned to him.

The trace of money laundering was investigated by the American Justice Department and the FBI was able to trace the movements of the money laundering. This is an important issue in the coming GE in May 2018. There are many other issues and Dr Mahathir liste more than 60 issues to be answered.

Tun Dr Mahathir is picked by the coalition of 4 parties to lead the opposition in this coming GE.
Is he he too old to play a role to change the present situation?

To me he is still young at 93 and he still thinking, reading and learning. Last night I was listening to his speech while he leads the opposition in the campaign to topple the present Barisan Government. Just imagine a person at the age of 93 is still active and participate in the country wide campaign for the General Election (GE) expected to be in May 2018. He seems to have plenty of energy and he looks like a man in his sixties. I also observed his interview by the western press and TV, he is as sharp as ever in answering questions and giving his views why he comes back to politics.

Tun Dr Mahathir is at the centre of the picture. On his left is the advisor of the Democratic Action Party and member of parliament YB Lim Kit Siang, a well respected and honest leader admired by the Chinese community in Malaysia. He was a disciple of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the late Prime Minister of Singapore. He almost enjoys majority support of the Chinese in Malaysia.

On the right of Dr Mahathir is his former deputy Prime-minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Who is he now? Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a Malaysian politician who was Leader of the Opposition between 2008 and 2015. He is a founder and leading figure of the People's Justice Party.

He is now serving a five years jail term on the charge of sodomy and he claimed that it is a political move to silence him. He is going to be released in June 2018.

The irony of politics in Malaysia is that Anwar Ibrahim was put in prison by Dr Mahathir when he was the Prime Minister (PM) on the same sodomy charge and later found not guilty. Mahathir took the drastic action because most people suspected that the young Anwar Ibrahim was about to challenge his leadership. Now Mahathir realizes his mistake and he is willing to serve as an interim PM at the age of 93 until Anwar is pardon by the king to become the next Prime Minister if the opposition coalition known as 'Pakatan Harapan'. or 'Coalition of Hope' wins the coming GE. Tun Dr Mahathir is magnanimous and asks to be forgiven. Can such a dream materialize?
We will wait and see.

I just did not believe my eyes when I saw Tun Dr Mahathir gate-crushed at a forum discussing the issue that 93 years old man is too old to lead a country. The professor from a Northern University, Kedah was a panel speaker and he could not speak when he saw the presence of Tun Dr Mahathir sitting in front. Instead he asked Dr Mahathir how he is going to control the dominant Chinese Party DAP in the Coalition of Hope?

The whole situation changed and Tun Dr Mahathir became the dominant speaker for the forum. This clearly shows that age is just a number and if you keep yourself mentally young, you are still young. Keep learning and reading to keep yourself young.

After watching all these happenings, I come to the conclusion that as long as you keep learning and are well informed of what's happening, there is always a role for you to play in this world. There is always a purpose for you in this world.

Do you consider yourself too old to serve?
Any one who stops learning is old. To stay young, you have to keep learning. Remember that age is just a number and the greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. The journey of life is only predictable if you keep learning, keep stepping into brand new paths that lead to brighter horizons. Take your chance, make your choice and stand strong to continue your life of abundance. If you change nothing, nothing will change.
