Clothing And Accesories For Yogyakarta People

in #yogyakarta4 years ago

I lived in Yogyakarta for three years. I know that Yogyakarta people are unique. They have special clothes and accerories. Their habits and customes are unique too. That's why there are many local and international tourists like to stay in Yogyakarta. This time my topic is about clothing and accesories, happy reading!

  1. Surjan
Surjan is a kind of shirt. The color is different but it must be striped. Striped surjan is a cloth for mass. There are six buttons on the neck. Two on the chest. The buttons on the neck symbolize 6 Islamic principles and two on chest symbolize witness in Islamic faith.
image.png The combination of surjan is Blankon ( cap) and jarik ( It is like a skirt). Blangkon also has philosophy for Javanese.
  2. Blangkon
Blangkon is a kind of cap with a special design. The color is usually brown, black, or dark color with batik ( special patterned) color.

Blangkon has mondolan on the back. Mondolan is oval or round shape on the back. It means that men should keep secret, polite and have warm personality.
  3. Jarik
Jarik is a patterned fabric. It is worn like wearing a skirt for woman but it is different because there is no sewing in jarik. People wear jarik by tie it. Wearing jarik has some philosofi because when one wears jarik the movement become slower. Slow movements means friendliness, politeness and patience.
