What is the type of Yoga for you?

Although it may seem that yoga is a unique discipline that is always
practiced in the same way, there is nothing further from reality.
There are many different types of yoga within physical yoga (the one
that is most practiced in the West) and knowing what each one offers
you is essential to be able to choose the one that suits you best.

In general, for a beginner I recommend starting with Iyengar Yoga and / or Hatha Yoga. This will allow us to learn a good technical base
and safe alignments to execute the asanas, avoid injuries and,
obviously, obtain all the benefits of the practice. Once you have a
good foundation, you can start to try more dynamic varieties of yoga.

In any case, there is a type of yoga for you. So discover here what is among the most widespread physical yoga disciplines.

Hatha Yoga

The path of yoga best known and practiced. It is about pure physical
yoga, the father of almost all other disciplines. Hatha Yoga seeks the
union of the body and the mind: through discipline and body balance
little by little access to mental balance.

With a relatively leisurely pace, traditional Hatha Yoga is ideal for
beginners. It is easy to learn and suitable for all levels and
physical conditions since it mixes more active postures that work the
resistance and flexibility with other more relaxing designed to
stretch specific parts of the body.

Iyengar Yoga.

It is a variation of Hatha Yoga performed by the teacher B.K.S.
Iyengar It is a type of yoga ideal for beginners, although it is
suitable for all levels. Its main difference compared to Hatha Yoga is
the use of accessories (blocks, belts, cushions ...) to adapt each
position to the personal physical capacity of the practitioner. With
this, we seek to perfect posture and alignment to ensure a safe
practice, avoid injuries and get the maximum benefit from the practice
whatever your level.

Its rhythm is slow, it seeks to work strength, flexibility and
breathing. Advancing in Iyengar Yoga is a slow, but safe and profound
process.

Yin Yoga

This type of yoga seeks to work at a deeper level than other
disciplines as far as the body is concerned. While other disciplines
work on muscles, Yin Yoga seeks to exercise the fascia, ligaments and joints to gradually improve flexibility from within. As these elementare at a level deeper than the muscles, they work in different ways, maintaining asanas and stretching for longer periods of time. The challenge is to stay in the posture marked time (5 to 15 minutes) with the muscles relaxed and moving as little as possible.

When working at such a deep level, it is a type of yoga very suitable for elderly people, with injuries or mobility problems, inrehabilitation processes, etc., since it helps to repair and toachieve a greater joint opening.
Some people say that he is a good guy to get into yoga, but in my personal opinion, it is too slow, very few positions are worked on by class. During the Yin Yoga classes, a dark and relaxed atmosphere is encouraged and it is recommended to meditate during the postures. For this reason, I consider that, unless your main focus is meditation or you have a limited physical capacity, you need a little more of physical and mental level (from a meditative point of view) to get to appreciate this type of practice.

Vinyasa Flow.

Vinyasa Yoga, also known as Flow or Vinyasa Flow Yoga, is
characterized by making more creative sequences of fluid movements and connected with each other and with breathing. It is done with music and focuses on developing strength, flexibility and balance above all, although each class is composed based on the intention you want to work.

It is a faster and more vigorous type of yoga that mixes simpler
asanas with more powerful and advanced ones, so it is advisable to
have a very good yoga base to avoid injury. It is not a type of yoga
that I would recommend to beginners since the pace is quite fast and
it can be complicated and even "dangerous" to follow it.

There is the variant with heat (Hot Vinyasa Flow) that is practiced in a heated room at about 40ºC. Both the hot and the traditional versions are recommended for weight loss.

Kundalini Yoga.

For most oriental philosophies and doctrines, Kundalini is the vital
energy inherent to every human being, which sleeps at the base of ourspinal column (first chakra).

This type of yoga seeks to awaken this energy and release our personal power through a dynamic mixture of physical exercises (asanas, active and controlled breathing) and spiritual exercises (meditation, chanting of mantras, use of mudras).

Bikram Yoga.

Developed by Bikram Choudhury, Bikram Yoga (also known simply as Hot Yoga) uses a series of 26 postures and breathing exercises taken from Hatha Yoga. These are made in a room heated to around 40ºC with 40% humidity. The conditions that are practiced seek, among other things, to purify the body through sweat and facilitate the heating of muscles for exercise, maximizing their performance. This set of high intensity poses suppose a system of integral physical training that work strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. All this done at a rapid pace with few moments of recovery, is a very used to lose weight. As I comment in this post, I do not find a highly recommended yoga style, at least for beginners.
