YALI WEST AFRICA ONLINE COHORT 8: MY SEAT AND PLACE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED

Hello fellow steemians, it is another beautiful day full of opportunities. I am quite happy and previledged to have been chosen to participate in the Yali west african cohort 8 in Ghana. Fortunately, i was approved to partake in the online cohort because there was no way i could make it to Ghana for the onsite cohort.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by the United States government as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders. The need to invest in grooming strong, results-oriented leaders comes out of the statistics: nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and approximately 60% of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35.Who will empower and lead these young Africans? Who will shape the future of business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management? In order to answer these questions, YALI promotes three models designed to identify and empower young leaders: the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship, YALI Network and now the establishment of Regional Leadership Centers across Africa.
Supporting this progress, the Accra Regional Leadership Centre (RLC), as part of the United States government initiative, Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), will offer an innovative and game changing leadership training program in Africa. The program will be hosted by Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and the first cohort will walk through the doors on the 31st July 2014.

It will be a great opportunity to connect with other youth leaders from around Africa as we come together to share and be impacted with leadership skills that will be helpful and useful in running our various organizations and businesses. We will have experienced speakers and youth leaders from renowned organizations and youth leadership related fields coming to mentor us on all what we need to know. There will be team work as we would be paires in groups at the start of the cohort and in these groups work together as a team in learning, problem solving and accomplishing given tasks and assignments.

This cohort comes at a very much needed time as well. The leadership skills i will be able to pick from this cohort will enhance the ones i already have to help me run my passion driven community GLOW Community to higher heights. This is why i am so excited to be participating in this leadership course to achieve my desired goals and get as much as i can get from this golden opportunity. I want to lead by example and to be that leader that is not self-imposed but one that has convincingly proved himself to be worth it.

Brighter days are still to come and GLOW Community is going to do its part in making and being the difference.
