Marriage is never just coming together of two people, but the collision of their histories. it is a clash of cultures, experiences memories and habits. Marriage is the beautiful accommodation of another lifetime.
Think about the description. You as an individual have a history, the person you will marry have a history when you come together under the umbrella of marriage, your histories collide. Your cultures, whether that of a tribe or your personal cultures, that is your belief systems, clash. Not only that, your experience clash, that is, what you have seen, felt and touched as a person before entering into marriage.
