RESPECT!

Respect is the foundation of effective communication,
about understanding the emotion and intentions behind
the exchange of information.

This is especially true in the classroom.
Teachers and students demonstrate respectful
communication by using a tone that is tactful
and choosing words that are appropriate to the
situation.

When listening, make eye contact and focus
on the speaker. never interrupt the speaker.
Teachers who model respect with their students
have more respectful classrooms because students
learn how to communicate respectfully.

In school, teacher demonstrate great
respect for each other and for students. It is
admirable how teachers strive to be modest
and tactful in dealing with people. They explain
the strengths and weakness of their students
so that parents will understand the message
and be receptive rather than defensive. This is
especially important when the teacher conveys
a difficult message about student's misbehavior
or learning problems. Teachers should also be
comfortable communicating with parents.

Respect in communication is imperative if
we are to maintain harmonious relationship
with students, colleagues, superiors, the
community and other stakeholders.
