[ Movie Talk ] "Jigsaw": What is your sin?

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

First of all, I have to comment on how much I am a fan of this franchise (which despite its ups and downs, has a very relevant importance for any movie addicted who likes horror movies) and to be able to watch more this sequence in theaters was really a pleasure (do not take this to a morbid side, haha).

Now, let's go to the review... Haha! ;)

What is your sin? - This is the most pressing question in this new movie that has a very big responsibility: to revive the worldwide franchise as one of the most relevant and profitable horror franchises in modern cinema.

When several bodies begin to appear dead through the city with indications that the psycho known as Jigsaw would be back, two new detectives enter in a new game to solve the crimes where the main question is: Who is signing the authorship / committing these crimes if Joh Kramer is dead?

The concept of this new film remains the same as the previous films and although the script manages to bring something new (such as working the traps of the movie under daylight, something that had never been done before), at the same time manages to waste time on ideas that do not work the way they should.

In the middle of a direction (Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig) that oscillates between the good and the average, the script can't keep film until its third act (which is when history can establish itself and everything is explained... giving meaning to everything that had been done until then).

The traps (one of the strongest arguments and that certainly helped the franchise to gain name in the world) don't excite as much as they should - despite having 2 great and very bloody - the new cast has no highlight that deserves any specific comment (oscillating only between disposable and shallow) but the main plot twist lives up to the new air that the franchise ended up receiving.

Everyone has their own particular demons and that's what the "Saw" franchise is all about: Confronting the repercussion of our own attitudes towards the lives of other people (whether or not they are close to us). To be even more honest, the franchise manages to go even further because it makes us question if we are really worthy to continue having the life we have.

To the fans: I't's a must-see movie in theaters (because the horror, the blood, the traps, the suspense, the great and exciting soundtrack, the many twists and turns... everything is back). To non-fans: Well... It's best to watch the previous movies first.
