Criteria for choosing a book.

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Considering my experience in the world of reading - and all the situations I've witnessed about it- , I think some of these criteria are on the list of everyone who makes the decision to read a book (but needs to evaluate some points before that).

#01 - Who is the author / writer?

It's not always necessary to know what the story is about and this shows the great confidence of some readers in their favorite authors / writers.

#02 - Is the (art) cover attractive?

Visual readers are laced by the neck for well-made arts and fill their eyes with curiosity. Then iti' quite likely that these books have a certain advantage of being chosen.

#03 - How many pages does it have?

Very long books and pages that seem to be endless do not usually have many fans (especially the younger ones). Of course this does not invalidate the quality of the book, but long readings are not often the first choices.

#04 - Where are the pictures?

As unbelievable as it may seem, this aspect (something trivial to many readers) is still something very well rated / sought by a legion of readers (especially if the story is an adventure / science fiction).

05 - I don't know if it's worth the price.

Books are seen by many people (including the readers themselves... in this case, the most volatile ones) as something disposable. Therefore, investing a high amount on them will not make much sense.

#06 - Expert criticism comments.

Readers who prefer to save time / money and avoid getting into a bored boat prefer to read the reviews of vehicles known in the industry to get an idea of what they are about to read (but it is obvious that critics are not always correct).

#07 - Comments from other readers.

The most influential readers like to know the opinions of family, friends, colleagues and strangers about the quality of a particular book. Not that this is a determining factor, but it helps them get a clearer picture of the situation.

#08 - Is it a best seller?

The maxim of what quantity doesn't mean quality seems to be completely ignored by millions of readers who prefer to always swim according to the tide. Each person has their own opinion, but when there is a lot of agreement about everything... I think there is something wrong.

#09 - New or Used?

Although it's considered by many readers to be silly (because what really matters is the story), the physical aspects of books often make the difference at the time of the decision.

#10 - Read or Listen?

Considering the technological advances - especially in the field of reading - the presence of audiobooks seems to have somewhat messed up the world of printed books, thus dividing their readers.

Did I forget something? What would you add?
