A life without internet?

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

According to a recent report released by Unicef (United Nations Children's Fund) 1/3 of young people under the age of 18 - something equivalent to 346 million people - around the world doesn't have access to the internet.

The document that exposes this reality, concludes that the exclusion of the young "exacerbates the iniquities" and ends up reducing the capacity of children and adolescents to participate in an increasingly globalized world.

According to Unicef, one of the problems that helps make this data real is regional inequality. For example: Africa is the least connected country (about three out of five young people offline)... While in Europe, statistics say that only one in twenty five young people is in the same situation.

Pointing out more problems, Unicef says that language is a barrier to digital access because 56% of all websites are written in English (this ends up preventing young people from finding culturally relevant content for them.

Hoping to solve the problems, a number of recommendations related to the creation of commercial policies and practices for the benefit of the young people were disclosed by the organization. Among them, it is necessary to ensure the identity of children and adolescents online.

Another measure would be to digitally empower youth so they stay informed, engaged and secure in a field that often looks like land without law.

Considering all aspects of your life today, can you imagine yourselves being part of that scenario?
