[How they all began] Lamborghini
In the last HTAB we talked about Ferrari, another car which car company which is linked with riches is Lamborghini. With their beautiful and fast cars, we can only wish we had one. In this how they all began we will be talking about Ferrari.
Starting out
Ferruccio Lamborghini founded Lamborghini founded the company in 1963, with the goal of creating a grand touring car to compete with cars from Ferrari. The first models the company made were released in the mid 1960's and people enjoyed them due to their comfort and power. Lamborghini stunned the world with their Miura sports coupe car, which used rear mid-engine and rear wheel drive, this move became the normal layout for the high performance cars of that time. As the oil crisis and 1973 worldwide financial downturn were happening, the Lamborghini sales plummeted.
Moving On
As the sales were plunging Ferruccio Lamborghini sold his company to Georges-Henri Rosetti and Rene Leimer. Shortly after selling his company he retired in 1974. The company was not doing well and within 4 years the company went bankrupt. After this bankruptcy the ownership of the company went to Jean Claude and Patrick Mimran ( brothers ) as receivership. The brothers purchased the company out of receivership in 1984 and invested for the company's expansion. The brothers added the Jalpa sports car and an off-road model.
Getting Big (and more selling!)
In 1987 the brothers sold Lamborghini to the Chrysler Corporation. They replaced the Countach model with the Diablo model and discontinued the Jalpa. After doing these adjustments they sold the company to a Mycom setdco, a Malaysian investment group. After 4 years Mycom sold Lamborghini to Volkswagen where it (luckily for us) has stayed. New model lines were introduced and the company saw an increased productivity. During the worldwide financial crisis and subsequent economic crisis, Lamborghini's sales dropped by a staggering 50%. The most noticeable cars are the Aventador, which you can probably pick out from a crowd, the Huracan, The Centenario and the upcoming SUV, the Urus.
Very nice. I have a Diablo myself.
