  • LUST

According to Wikipedia,

Lust is a psychological force producing intense wanting for an object, or circumstance fulfilling the emotion. Lust can take any form such as the lust for sexuality, money or power. It can take such mundane forms as the lust for food as distinct from the need for food.

Lust as described in the definition above, is a strongly feeling that pushes one to do the unbearable which can lead him to sin against God and man. Lust can lead to adultery, rape and bestiality. Having love for something more than the love you have for God is the greatest sin because you put that above God.

  • GLUTTONY

This is the overindulgence and over consumption of anything to the point of waste. In Christianity, it is sinful if food is over desired causing such food to be withheld from the needy. In other words, gluttony can called be called selfishness because all you are considering is simply yourself and your stomach.
During the time of war and famine, gluttony can cause the death of others (when others are eating without regarding the needy). The cure of gluttony is TEMPERANCE. This occurs by placing the desire to be healthy.

Bible references include: Philippians 3:19-20, Proverbs 23:1-3,Psalm 78:17-19, Proverbs 23:19-21 and 1 Corinthians 3:16-17.

  • GREED

This is the excessive pursuit of material possessions. It is similar to that of lust and gluttony (a sin of desire). Greed can also be called covetousness which is not accepted by God and is against God's commandments.
According to Hebrews 13:5, it says “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’"
Greed can be cured by putting the desire to help others above storing up treasure for one’s self

Other related Bible texts are Exodus 20:17, Proverbs 11:24, Proverbs 28:25, Ecclesiastes 5:10, Philippians 4:6 and 1 Timothy 6:9-10.

  • SLOTH

Sloth is the act of not utilizing ones talent. Its not a new story about the guys that were given talent. Two multiplied there's and the last one went on burying his. What I learnt is that talents are given to make lives better and should be use to praise God because we are all going to give account of how we used our talents.
In other words, sloth is an excessive laziness or the failure to act and utilize one’s talents. Proverbs 6:6 saying, “Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise.”
Zeal is a best cure because it replaces the interest of others above a life of ease and relaxation.

Other Bible mentions of sloth are in the following verses: Proverbs 13:4, Proverbs 24:33-34, Romans 12:11-13, Colossians 3:23 and 2 Thessalonians 3:10.

  • WRATH

Wrath is an anger that can not be controlled. It is also hate towards another person. Wrath is often showcased in a wish to seek vengeance. A full blown wrath results in violence, injury and hate which can lead to feuds capable of going on for ages. It is safe to say that angry people are "slaves to themselves.

The Bible speaks about wrath in Romans 12:19, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.'”
Additional Bible verses include: Psalm 37:8, Proverbs 14:29, Proverbs 15:1, Ephesians 4:26-27, Colossians 3:8 and James 1:19-20.
The best cure of WRATH is Patience by understanding the needs and desires of others before acting or speaking.

  • ENVY

envy_0.jpg

like greed and lust, is characterized by an insatiable desire. It can be described as a sad or resentful covetousness towards the traits or possessions of someone else.

Envy can be directly related to the Ten Commandments, specifically, "Neither shall you covet... anything that belongs to your neighbour" - a statement that may also be related to greed. Dante defined envy as "a desire to deprive other men of theirs". In Dante's Purgatory, the punishment for the envious is to have their eyes sewn shut with wire because they gained sinful pleasure from seeing others brought low. According to St. Thomas Aquinas, the struggle aroused by envy has three stages: during the first stage, the envious person attempts to lower another's reputation; in the middle stage, the envious person receives either "joy at another's misfortune" (if he succeeds in defaming the other person) or "grief at another's prosperity" (if he fails); the third stage is hatred because "sorrow causes hatred"

Bartolomeo_Manfredi_-_Cain_Kills_Abel,_c._1600,_Kunsthistorisches_Museum_(Vienna).jpgIt can be said that it was Envy that motivated Cain into killing his brother Abel similarly because God favored Abel's sacrifice over Cain's.
It is written in the book of Proverbs 14:30, “A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.” Other biblical references are Job 5:2, Psalm 37:1, Proverbs 24:19-20, Ecclesiastes 4:4, Galatians 5:26 and James 3:14-16.

  • PRIDE

pride_0.jpg

Pride is considered, on almost every list, the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins: the perversion of the faculties that make humans more like God dignity and holiness. Pride can be related to that of selfishness , because when one puts his own desires, urges and wants before the welfare of others.
The Bible says in the book of Jeremiah 9:23-24, “...Let not the mighty man boast of his might...but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me...”
Pieter_Bruegel_the_Elder_-_The_Tower_of_Babel_(Vienna)_-_Google_Art_Project_-_edited.jpg
Pride is also mentioned in the following verses: Proverbs 8:13, Proverbs 16:18, Romans 12:16, 1 Corinthians 13:4, Galatians 6:3 and James 4:6-7.
But everything can be cured and this can be cured by having HUMILITY( by removing one.s ego and boastfulness, thereby allowing the attitude of service).

These sins can be seriously depart you from God. Even man can not tolerate these sins. So let's try to live right.
