Are we still slaves - Modern slavery - I'm OK with it - English/Nederlands
Are we, human beings, still slaves of the rulers of the world? Life in slavery means work, reproduce, have a boss, eat and some spare time.
Today, I have to work for a boss, for money, and half of it, I have to pay to the tax office, that other boss. I have to buy food, pay rent, I have family care and leisure costs.
Most people have no choice and have to work to live, slaves too. You can work your way up in the system and earn more money, to gain more benefits, a slave could do that as well.
Occasionally, I feel like a slave when I look at how well some people are doing and the wealth they are gaining. Then, I think, "I want that too", lots of free time, a boat, money on the bank and buy what you want. Even though that new car gives me just half a day of fun, if I could, I would do that.
Oh, finally, I'm not doing bad at all, and most of us can say that too. I'm pretty free in the Netherlands, but I would only like to spend more money on myself instead of paying tax. I always feel that I do not need a government, if there were non, I'd be fine too.

Vandaag de dag moet ik werken voor een baas, voor geld, en de helft afdragen aan de belastingdienst, die andere baas. Ik moet eten kopen, huur betalen, familie onderhouden en vrije tijd.
De meeste mensen hebben geen keuze en moeten werken om te leven, slaven moesten dat ook. Je kunt je in het systeem opwerken en meer geld verdienen, om zo meer voordelen te verwerven, dat konden slaven ook.
Ik voel me af en toe een slaaf als ik kijk hoe goed sommige mensen het hebben en de rijkdom die ze vergaren. Dan denk ik, “dat wil ik ook wel”, veel vrije tijd, een bootje, geld op de bank en kopen waar je zin in hebt. Ook al geeft die nieuwe auto mij maar een halve dag plezier, als ik dat zou kunnen, zou ik dat doen.
Ach uiteindelijk heb ik het hellemaal niet slecht en dat kunnen de meesten van ons wel zeggen. Ik ben in Nederland toch behoorlijk vrij, ik zou alleen wat meer geld willen overhouden ipv aan de belastingdienst geven. Ik heb altijd het gevoel dat ik geen overheid nodig heb, dat, als deze er niet zou zijn, ik me ook prima zal redden.
wees geen slaaf van jezelf of opgedrongen waarden, denk ik bij het lezen van deze blog. ik ben best tevreden met wat ik heb, geen honger een onderdak en tijd en de vrijheid om mezelf te zijn. als ik dan bedenk dat 80 procent van deze wereld elke dag moet vechten om te overleven, prijs ik mezelf rijk. al zit de echt waarde in het leven volgens mij, tevreden te zijn met wat je hebt. natuurlijk verlang ik soms naar meer om niet elke maand de eindjes aan elkaar te moeten knopen, maar dan denk ik bij mezelf...voor wat hoort wat en ben ik best tevreden dat ik alle dagen mijn passie kan uitoefenen zonder daar echt te moeten onder leiden. al hoop ik wel stiekem dat steem tot een record bedrag stijgt, maar dit enkel om dit te kunnen delen met zij die het minder hebben dan mezelf of niet de mogelijkheid hebben om hun passie te kunnen uitoefenen. want dan ben je pas echt een slaaf vrees ik.

We're lucky we were able to move to Spain. Of course you always pay taxes in one country or another, the cost of living here is such that netto you keep more money for yourself.
We receive a pension from the Netherlands, to be clear ;-)

I think there is an important difference to make between a couple of things you name here.
On the one hand, you say people have no other choice to work, and therefore they are slaves.
On the other hand, we have little choice in paying taxes, since the state forces us to.
What's the difference? Well, we are NOT slaves because we have to work. We have to survive either way. Even if there were no work at all, we'd have to survive in other ways, like hunting and living off the land. This is not slavery, this is simply survival.
The thing that makes us slaves, is the state. We are forced to fund that institution regardless of whether we agree or not. That is what makes us slaves. Having to work to survive does not.
