Who are these people? They can be found trawling the malls at 10:00 am on a Monday, walking at the pace of slow degrading rocks and mimicking its features, by coming to a complete standstill, right in front of your face! You twist and turn, letting out a sigh as you do. As you overcome one stone in your path there's always another lurking in the far-reaching corners of the urban sprawl, that is more than happy to accommodate these day-walkers.

They browse, they shop and they have all the time in the world. Completely unfazed by the natural order of any given weekday. They stare into the abyss from their deck chair with a craft coffee slapping their lips, as they attempt to readjust the hairdo in the lens of their ray bans, now marked with the froth from their brew.

You may have even seen them on Blouberg beach, taking to the sea and tackling waves with an airborne kite. These people will ride the waves all day and night if they could. Some of them just sit on the beach and watch the wave riders for a few hours before disappearing back into the suburbs, where another coffee is the order of the day.

Cape Town blows my mind! It's perplexing to see so many wealthy people who literally do nothing all day. Or so I thought. Even though the bulk of these people are foreigners on holiday; it turns out that more and more people are working remotely.

Trading the conventional office space for the beach, the ocean breeze and the mountain of course. More and more Capetonians are becoming mobile and setting up shop amongst the livelihood of the city. It's also no surprise that many people simply opt for the lifestyle in Cape Town over and above Joburg's fast paced rat race.

With the rapid influx of people abandoning other metros and moving to Cape Town it is no surprise that the city is getting busier and busier. Some people have left jobs in search of others while other people have retained their positions, but with no official base in Cape Town, they have set up camp in and around the city, whilst face planted in their MacBook and working remotely.

So, if you've ever wondered what it is that these people do daily, why not ask them? They could be on a lunch break or a billionaire that has no intention of working a day in life. Open up the lines of communication and you may be pleasantly surprised to find that the office space as we know it is slowly dying.
