A man who had half his face ripped off when a tiger crept into up as he slept and savaged him is to finally undergo surgery.

Hashmot Ali has lived as a virtual hermit for the past 20 years after becoming shunned by villagers in his home following a horrific tiger attack that left him with half a face.

The 40-year-old was working as a fisherman in the jungles of Bangladesh in 1995 collecting honey when he went to sleep for the night in the boat.

As he slept, a massive tiger swam up to the boat and lashed at him with its huge paw - ripping part of the then young man's face clean off.

Hashmot Ali was attacked as he slept in a boat in 1995 and only friends stopped the tiger from dragging him off. The tiger tried to pull him over the side of the boat but his colleagues started hitting the side of the boat with the paddle and managed to scare it away.

Hashmot was rushed to hospital by frantic co-workers but while medics were able to save his life, the then teenager was left disfiguered.

But now his hopes of a return to normal life may soon be realised as he was finally admitted for surgery at Dhaka Medical Hospital in Bagladesh this week. Hashmot is hoping the surgery will provide him with the opportunity to reintegrate back into his community

The attack left him horrifically disfigured. He hopes medics will be able to repair as much of his face as possible - helping him re-integrate into society.

Hasmot also hopes the surgery will give relief to his three daughters, who he fears could never find love due to the stigma his injuries carry in the community.

Hashmot had struggled to pay for any surgery - all but ending his dream

Despite the horrific injuries, Hashmot married and has 3 children.
