Column: Father's Day

Dad, wake up! It's father's day!

Like an old portcullis of a castle, the eyelid of my left eye goes up. As the giant from the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk I come into the land of the living.

The first thing my eye sees is the big smile of the enthusiastic girl who has just woken up her father. There is no better way to wake up.

"Here daddy, a present, I made it myself, because I love you so much"

A tradition

Father's Day is a day honoring fathers, celebrating their fatherhood, paternal duties and the influence of fathers in society. Contrary to what is often thought, this is not a marketing day invented by shopkeepers.

According to the stories, Father's Day was introduced in 1909 by a lady from America, where she wanted to honor her father. He was a veteran from the American Civil War, who had become a widower.

She wanted to bring the strength and perseverance of her father to the attention.

A day to thank fathers

I think it's nice to keep this day alive. It is nice to show children that not everything is self-evident in life.

Not everyone has his or her father with him. I am sure that there are more who experience this day with a heavy feeling. For those fathers, have a lot of power today.

But if you have children, be happy for them and be an example in their eyes. A father that they can be proud of.

A day so, to thank the dad's for everything they do and to give them a big hug!
