Ken Liu, author of the next best seller, is an American writer who was born in China, emigrated to North America at the age of eleven. Reading his books implies knowing that even in him resides his culture of origin. He has won several literature awards, including el Hugo, el Nébula y el World Fantasy Award.
What it's about
The novel tells the story of a fantasy kingdom called Dara, is an archipelago made up of various islands and kingdoms.
The story begins with the total settlement of the Xana empire over the other kingdoms. Two unique young men will grow and stand out in their own way in this plot. Both of opposite personalities, but with the same objective of crushing the empire once and for all and coming out of its yoke.
Novel Message
It was conceived to inculcate the art of war, is one of the points of the novel. In any scene this is obvious, the tactics or strategies applied there are worth noting. The presence of the gods in the narrative implies the opportunities and hazards in life that we have to take in life to fulfill our goal.
The fact that history jumps in time allows us to analyze where we can arrive with our decisions, in retrospect we see the multiple possibilities that the future frames for us and that there is only one decision and vision that will set the tone.
Opinion as writer
In my opinion it is very well posed, only a few touches are out of tune in history, they do not fit my concept in decision making. The rest of the characters have an excellent trace in their evolutionary line, as it should be to keep the reader wanting more.
Many times one visualizes the final panorama of the novel, but the events develop in a way that turns the reader upside down. What plays in the book are the characters rich in personality and the diverse culture of the kingdoms, it almost seems palpable the images that the book transmits. It is like reading the history of an ancient civilization.
At the level of environment is poor, but creativity and actions fill those gaps, it is the same with the descriptions of Dara's technology.
