True Feminism
What I Think True Feminism Should Be
Though the feminist movement has influenced the change of some laws and inspired a lot of women to take on leadership positions all around the world, I think it would have achieved much more if it had not taken a different path of men - hating.
Men have never been the problem of women and will never be. They were both created by the Almighty creator to compliment each other with their uniqueness. The woman is uniquely different from the man and vice versa. Nature so made it that men couldn't play some specific roles women can play and vice versa. So trying to make one sex behave like the other and vice versa will not help the existence of the human race.
I think feminism is supposed to be a call to responsibility, aspirations and accountability of the female folks. The feminist movement would have achieved much more, but it is finding it hard to penetrate certain cultures, traditions and belief systems in the world because some of the pioneers and present propagators of the feminist ideologies are making it seem like a war against men, traditions and cultures of a people.
Yes, we all understand that some traditions and cultures shouldn't be reckoned with in this age and time, but you can't compel them to be changed by attacking them. You have to present logical points why you think they should be done away with and the benefits such change will bring to the people of such culture or tradition.
You can't fight against the traditions and cultures of a people that have been passed from generation to generation without meeting stiff resistance. Everytime I hear a woman that claims to be a feminist talk, all she'll be talking about are the things or privileges that men are getting that should be stripped off them and given to women or the things that men are doing or not doing that they should either be compelled to do or forced to stop doing.
They're presenting feminism in a way that a lot of people, even fellow women alike are beginning to think that the feminist movement is an anti-men movement or a call for women to be irresponsible with the I can do whatever I like with my body slogan. Forgetting that after they might have done whatever they like with their bodies and peradventure a problem occurs as a result of their actions, their loved ones will also join them to share in the pain.
Instead of the Feminist movement to engage more in charging more women to aspire for greatness, they are thinking of ways to strip men of the things that they have worked for and earned. This approach is making a lot of people - male and female alike to resent the feminist movement and not wanting to have anything to do with it.
Look, a woman can aspire to be whatever she wants if her mind is conditioned properly and she's given the needed support - Likewise a man. So the argument of what men are getting or what women are not getting won't be there if a lot of women are encouraged to aspire for more in life.
Yes, I know that there are or were some parts of the world where women are being deprived from engaging in certain activities or carrying out some functions because of their cultures or traditions. But even in such places, there are also benefits that the women of such places are enjoying that the men there can't get easily as a result of same traditions or cultures. Though I'm not trying to justify any limitations imposed on a particular gender as a result of unfavorable traditions, cultures or laws. What I'm trying to say here is that, making men the enemy won't make such unfavorable traditions go away.
Making the women in such traditions see the need for a change and the benefits such change will bring to them and will compel them to fight for their own cause in a civilized manner without taking the route of men-hating. Feminism should be about encouraging women to aspire to achieving their dreams.
There was a time in my country- about four to five decades ago, when there was this general belief among the uneducated parents and few educated ones that educating the girl child will be a big loss to the parents because she'll be given out in marriage to another family. Thus, the other family that she is given out to would be the one to reap the sweat of the parents.
But with time, such mindset changed and now in some parts of my country, parents are investing more in the girl child educationally than the male child because experience had shown most parents that the female child has the higher possibility of catering for them in their old age than the male child in most cases. The female child not being educated previously was more of a misconstrued belief than hate for the female child. No parent would relent from giving their kids the best regardless of the gender if they understand that they are investing in their own future and peace of mind.
So I think feminism should be a Wake up call to women to dream big and aspire for more in life. It should also be a Wake up call to parents to invest in their children regardless of their gender. Men and Women need each other in order to make the world a better place. Thus, the uniqueness of both gender should be appreciated and enhanced for the betterment of the world. This is my take of what the feminist movement should be about. What do you think?
You're always welcome to share your thoughts on the comment section.
I don't see how you can avoid taking some of the privileges from men if you want equality for women. They are in direct competition, they can not both exist at the same time.
Also there just isn't any way to reconcile most religions and equality for women. Unless you want to cherry pick.
Men don't have privileges. Men earned everything they have. Women should be encouraged to aspire more and dream high. As per religion, when the women in such religion are made to see the need for a change, they would rise up and speak out. Thanks for sharing your thought
I've certainly done nothing to earn most of the male privileges I see my self benefiting from everyday
I don't think there are make privileges where I live but women have some privileges
Of course women haven privileges too. But in most if not all place it's is far less than men. What privileges do you see women experiencing?
It feels like you are saying that I am entitled to my privileges because some other men before me "worked hard". I am not entitle to the benefits of their "work" just because I'm also male.
If you're having privileges where ever you, then that's good for you. All my life I've never been given anything tangible for free without working hard for it. Please, can you tell me some of the privileges that you claim to be enjoying? I really appreciate your contribution
I'm always assumed to be in charge or in some higher role than my female co workers. Even though it's the opposite. I've seen people walk through them to get to me. For not other reason except my gender.
I was once told that I I got a job because I was a white male. They wanted me to deal with clients.
It's all the little things too. The way people introduce them selves to me, the what they assume I'm capable of, they even seem to trust me more.
What about the orchestra experiment. Where they had people do audition where the selector could see them. All of a sudden much more women where being selected. How could anyone deny male privileges. Even if you think overall it is about even, there is just no way any observant person could believe that there isn't male privileges
I didn't see any privileges in what you just narrated. I thought you were going to say you're being paid more for doing lesser jobs compared to your female colleagues but nothing you said reflected that. If you have a very welcoming personality, people would naturally get drawn to you and prefer to do things with you not because you're male but because you're welcoming. I've worked with both male and female but I prefer to work with women more because they are more understanding. The female bosses I've worked under were very considerate, so if I'm given an opportunity to choose a boss, I'll always choose a female. It's based on my experiences with working with both male and female bosses not as a result of privileges. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts I greatly appreciate
Nope, I'm not a good employee, I've intentionally make it hard to approach me and they still skip my colleges to get to me.
Be real and look around. People have biases and sometimes they are based on false idea
I'm very real. People getting to you is not a privilege of any sort, if your boss is paying you that is on a lower level more than your female colleagues that are on a higher level, that is an injustice and a discrimination and your boss should be sued for such. But that was not the situation you painted. People love to relate to a particular gender more based on their experiences with such gender. Like i told you that i prefer female bosses because they ones I've worked with were more considerate than the male bosses I've worked with. I appreciate your contribution and the conversation. Thanks
Your posts are inspiring and thought-provoking. I read through a few and I really enjoy reading it. I am following you now.
I don't agree with feminism at all. The world took God's whole system and turned it upside down and is reaping the bitter fruits. When mothers stayed home and looked after the kids, the kids were much better off. In the old days, young people were not addicted to drugs, alcohol or involved in gang related crime. There were mothers at home who looked after her children, who educate them and kept them safe. Today children is given money instead of love. But I can go on all day about this topic. If people got married like in Biblical times when there bodies was fully developed sexually there was no teen pregnancies, no throwaway or aborted babies. The world today is sick and it's the mistake of humans. We call it progression and development. We are responsible for our own downfall. Instead of Christians showing how it should be we are following the norms of the world. Blessings!
Thank you ma for this wonderful comment. From my experience thus far, it seems Feminism is fighting against the marriage institution and some of the results of such action are the decadence we are experiencing in our society. God made everything perfect and for a purpose but man is trying to alter what God made with their own Ill thought ideologies. May God help us his children to make the difference in this confused world. Thanks
So are we bringing back slavery and allowing guests to rape our daughters? Wouldn't want to alter from gods ways
All men are not rapist and all men do not disrespect women. you can't say just because a particular gender are liable to commit a crime, then everyone in that gender is a criminal. Rape is much of a crime as murder, robbery, kidnap etc. It is a crime that is why there are laws against it. So don't put all men into one basket of being a rapist or disrespectful to women at the slightest opportunities. Men had never looked down on women, they understood the vital roles women are playing in the world and they know that they are complementing each other. Feminism shouldn't be about men, it should be about empowering women to dream bigger and aspiring to be leaders. That's just my take.
I'm in no way saying men are in any way intrinsically rapist. I was saying that the bible "gods word" looks favourably on men who allow their daughters to be raped instead of their guests.
You obviously are not very aware of history. Drugs have been around forever. Also is this the part where you cherry pick and forget about "gods will or gods plan for everyone" seems god directed them to drugs. Let's spot blaming women for working and start blaming the real reasons. Capitalims and government who don't represent the people.
