Looking for daily awareness

in #writing8 years ago (edited)

It is the gift of civilization that our days are calm. Sure, mildly annoying stuff happens but when push comes to shove, our days lack danger. That"s good. That's what we worked so hard to achieve. But it also numbs us a bit unless something happens.

It;s not uncommon to look back and see that the days are dull and repetitive. At the end of a week it's hard to tell the Monday from the Tuesday from the Thursday. Days fly by, unrecognizable, undistinguished which is, in a way, a static way to live. By that I mean that our time is not all entirely lived but autopiloted.

So what do we remember though? The sensational, the different, the event that marked a time. Oh, yeah, Tuesday was the day when i met X, or the day i broke my leg or who knows, the day you joined Steemit :) Realistically, making something happen day in day out is tiring and impossible but learning a little from the day is not all that hard. Or maybte it is, because it requires to be present and attentive to what time will give, then pass it thorugh your filter and distill it into a lesson, an insight.

What i found is that looking for insights will make them more likely to come as opposed to them hitting you in the head, making it impossible for you to not see them. So, I want to try to pay more attention and squeeze some wisdom out of every day.

I want to start by asking you, what's your insight for today. Take a moment [ or more ], reflect a second on your day and see what you come up with. I think you might be surprised, I know I will :)

Together, maybe we can all be more aware and alive.

Thank you.

I'm just seeing this now that I've started refollowing people after a complete purge. But finding content like this is exactly why I did that to begin with!

Your post resonates with me because perhaps the mundane, day-to-day stuff is why "time flies" as we get older. It seems rare that I'm excited about anything because nothing seems new or noteworthy. That's kind of sad. I realized today that I only know what day it is when it's Wednesday because that's when garbage pick up is. That is the sad truth. Hm... I think I need to get out more! LOL
