RE: writing challenge task two, dictionary entry, Clamydàtus, noun

in #writing8 years ago

i worked at a care facility one winter... After the patients went to bed and the paperwork was done, we were allowed to read books.. i brought a dictionary and left it there with a notebook... Every evening i would read the dictionary, and when i came to a word i was unfamiliar with i would write it down along with the definition in the notebook... when i got to the end of the Dicitionary, i just read the notebook... It really helped improve my vocabulary...

that is some serious self improvement.

think you know some words then?

"Oh, I'm sorry, sir. I'm anaspeptic, phrasmotic, even compunctuous to have caused you such pericombobulation."

lol, Edmund Blackadder's line, of course, not mine.

I read the dictionary a lot too. We had the world book two volume dictionary, and it was pretty interesting really. The dictionary and the encyclopedia too. Cover to cover, all of the volumes.

We didn't have hardly any other books.

except all the Jehovah's Witnesses literature, which I also read cover to cover.

but that was and still is senseless drivel really, insulting to the intelligence.

always had beautiful illustrations of multiple races of happy people living together happily with lions and tigers and zebras and stuff.
