TRANSLATING THOUGHTS TO GREAT THINGS

A carpenter was given a repair work in a courtroom. Having finished the work as expertly as needed, he inspected everywhere and was satisfied with his performance. In this environment where he was alone, a pleasant thought germinated in him.

The sight of the judge’s seat caught his interest and he desired the position; hence he went and planted himself on the seat. He recalled that he was intelligent enough when he was in school and speculated why he cannot read to become a judge in future. He wondered if there are special merits the judges have which are lacking in him.

With unquenchable creative dissatisfaction, he returned home and packed his carpentry tools. The following day he started reading for law. Few years later he qualified as a lawyer and soon became a judge. He sat down on the chair he had worked on just over a decade before as a carpenter.

The carpenter’s great idea and desire translated to a position of honour and prominence. Sounds like a fairy tale, but this is a true story that was told in a book, “A Message to Young Nigerians” by Tai Solarin.
