RE: Does Therapy Work?

in #writing6 years ago (edited)

tbh I see it as a bunch of hocus-pocus. It feels like people have stopped trying to deal with their problems anymore. Now I'm not saying problems like clinical depression couldn't be real.

What I'm saying is we can't really tell if a person's depression is real or they're mimicking symptoms to gain sympathy or some other external stimulus. I mean, we were better as species, we managed to deal with whatever problems because of family, friends or finding ways of creating meaning of life. Since when we started needing clinical psychologists to cope with a celebrity's death? I mean get real.

I'm even ready to put on a tin foil hat and say at times these "issues" are being thrust upon by corporations. I'm really tired about seeing ""jokes"" too often about being depressed. I mean take a fucking pick. You can joke about anything but not joke about being depressed all the time. Either it's a serious issue or the unacknowledged consensus is that under all that garb it really isn't. I sometimes see it as a way to normalize illnesses to see the pharma sales go up so that some jackass can fly private.

Look up the story about Viagra. They accidentally invented Viagra, and to sell it, they literally came up with a disease and suddenly everyone "has it". I really don't know what to believe.

Partly I think we're in this state because of broken family structure. We need amalgamated families, and less reliance on things in general. I hate that we've come to this place.

My honest and non-professional opinion on the topic is that start dealing with the issues when they're small. You will succeed at some point. Assuming you're not a criminal, there's no problem that you can't deal with if you just have your family by your side. Treat your family better. Be a better person.
