Robot Ethics - What We Should Cosnsider About Robot

in #writing8 years ago

How creator build robots? There are different reasons might push someone to starts creating a particular robot to do a certain job. I will try to explain my thoughts and understanding in an easy way to you.

What's A Robot?

Well first let's take an in-depth glance on what a robot could look like while you imagine the word in yours mind. Your first thought might be that it's an electronic body that built in with a different kind of metal and it serve the user in a sequence that incorporated within itself. It's a right thought as a beginning for the argument.

A robot you could think of as a machine that works in a certain way to provide any service or action. An ATM is good daily life machine example to use here. I mentioned it to show you that robot is not only a body that we could compare to humans shape but also any machine that been created by human being. ATM provide you detailed step to make a particular action that you expect from it to do for you. Here, we introduced an important thought about robots which is the intended result.  So, you expect a machine to work in a certain way, and you can't blame it for any twisted reaction that could occur suddenly at the moment.

Now, you know that all kind of metal, electronic machines that surround you could be called a robot and every one of those expected to do a particular job for their users.

Ethical & Unethical Robots

While building a machine, ethics one of the important topics to consider and to ensure no harm would have resulted.

Some robots help society to eliminate an ethical problem. Other machines would take ethics into consideration while doing its job. In today society, the challenge is to create an agent that look physically and mentally as a human being. They would walk and talk like us and also would have the ability to make their logical decisions.

If you look carefully, I mentioned the word 'agent' above to not only emphasizes it's role but also to bring in the example of the 'agents' in the movie "The Matrix." Those robots in the film who looked just like us in body and thoughts. They are being controlled in somehow by the system, but they do have a consciousness that leads them to decide what their next action should perform.

The movie shows the negative sides of those ' agents.' We want to give them free well and consciousness within their built but in the same way, we should tie their movement and thoughts so that no crisis would occur. To do that, we should treat those machine just like we treat each other as a human being. That itself would help us understand what principles as a creator should be considered according to the robot usage. In the same way, we would teach ourself as well about ethics to widen our understanding.

Today's robots are all lacking a different kind of ethical consideration. For example, you could find a machine that could help you call for help when something happens to you by accident and here let me introduce a robot that I came across; it called Zenbo. This robot could locate emergencies situation and call for help. But it can't prevent the user from being harmed and also the robot itself can't protect his existence. It the case of a lot of robots like this one in the market; could be easily harmed.

Other robots would be like the ones who's trying to prevent himself from fall in an individual situation. By accident, it might wound a human by pushing him. How about helping that person after to get up and apologize for the mistake it done. Or even preventing that from happing in the first place. All those thoughts should be considered ethically while developing a machine. There would be another bunch of ideas that could be tested on robots to improve their function to be more ethical.

Building a machine that would be able to process and recognize situation according to ethical standers is challenging. Until this day there isn't that kind of robot that just likes the one we are dreaming of having, But we are heading in that direction. Just by letting them be able for providing justification for their action would be more than useful to understand their functionality.

People have ethics (or not).
Robots have programming.

There are not enough people thinking about robots. The question is are there enough robots thinking about people.

I also think about robots alot. I look forward to more of your blogs
