No you are right. The bots are just the latest version of advertisement. Whoever has resources can make a bet to get more attention. This is how businesses also makes money in return. Man and Bot work side by side to create a better world with more quality content. This is a process that constantly is going on that has brought us from Stone Age to High-end Smartphones.

I understand your comparison of voting bots with advertising and promoting. But as I understand from the criticism on here, Bots are used to promote the contributors own content, thus boosting their reward artificially.
Advertising a traditional product or service costs money, which is lost if the buying public vote with their purse.
