RE: Day 710: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: dog whistles

in #writing5 years ago

That's interesting, the notion of a mere dog whistle (metaphor) being able to plunge one into depression. So Captain Lee has a dark past. hm.

I'm here to deliver the Tuesday prompt so please write us another!

Captain Lee has a tragic past ... it will wait for some extended content to explain it all, although part of the personal tragedy is referenced in passing at the end of Black, White, and RED All Over, part 10. Pile on that 23 years in the Army, including a mission botched by his superiors that cost his men their lives (see part 9, in which Captain Lee's corrupt superior triggers him on that topic).

The thing to keep in mind: Captain Lee is recovering, and is working on it, but he knows he is not where he needs to be, and that is what is slowing him down in the romantic department. He is very, very high functioning so far as doing his job, but he knows he is not at his best in terms of his emotional and mental life, and he wants to be able to offer his best, especially after "several sightings" of a possible future ...

These two are so fine together. It's nice to know the captain doesn't want to inflict his inner demons on Mrs Thornton, but I've yet to get back to the stories you told us what those demons are.

Some of them are yet to be revealed ... doing a whole new novelette featuring Captain Lee, to be posted up this month or next month ... he's got REAL problems, but he is working on them like he is working on his cold cases... relentlessly ...
