Collision

Inevitably the word conjures up two objects travelling through the 4th dimension on converging paths towards an inevitable meeting. For a collision to occur, most likely at high speed relative to each other, violently and resulting in injury or destruction of one or either of the aforementioned objects. We think of cars crashing into each other at junctions, hockey player with sticks and helmets flying.

Continents Collide

But Collision can also be a slow and beautiful thing. Two continents moving against each other eventually become one and the inhabitants slowly spread around the world. Seas and Mountains are created over a time frame of millions of years. It has happened many times in our planet's history and will keep happening. One day a range of mountains higher than the Himalayas will form where Paris now stands. The Mediterranean sea will disappear in the process. It's a collision which we cannot see or feel.

Cultures Collide

Then there is the other kind of collision which we can feel, slowly and subtly like the changing of the seasons. Collisions of culture & ideas and in this case a different type of outcome can occur. One that is neither deleterious or destructive; a beautiful, positive hybridisation, more akin to the processes of reproduction where two things come together to create a new thing in time and space. When the word collision comes to mind what do you think of ?

Falling in Love

In a similar fashion two lives on converging paths encounter each other and with a mutual feeling of destiny become entwined, entangled, enmeshed perhaps for a lifetime, perhaps for a fleeting few moments. A collision of hearts and minds on the individual level can be as epic as two continents colliding or can be as painful as a car crash. It can even become the ultimate act of creation, making love produces new life and creates new love for there is nothing more profound in the human experience than the love of a child for it's parent and a parent for it's offspring.

A Choice, what do you see ?

A car crash, broken glass, twisted metal, mountains crumpling up and continental shelves recycling the very bedrock of the sea floor or the affirmation of co-joined human thought bringing about fusion and a new way of seeing. Do you see new life, new opportunity or do you see pain. For this my friends answers only one question and that is about you.
