Yet Another Plot Definition -- This One From Ronald Tobias
I have a collection of plot definitions that I have accumulated through the years. I figure if I keep learning someday I'll REALLY know what a plot is. Just kidding. Sort of.
But when I served as an instructor for an international writing school, it was pretty clear to me (as I read lesson after endless lesson of fiction writing), that many wannabe novelists had not a clue about what constitutes a legitimate plot. So here's what Tobias has to say.
Ronald Tobias Bio
Ronald B. Tobias has spent his career as a writer moving from genre to genre, first as a short story writer, then as an author of fiction and nonfiction books and finally as a writer and producer of documentaries for public television. He served as professor in the Department of Media and Theatre Arts at Montana State University. His nonfiction book, 20 Master Plots: And How to Build Them, is in my personal library, and is one of my favorites.
