Automatic Writing as a Pathway to Freedom from Psychological Repressions

When we go about our daily lives we pick up things emotionally in our emotional bodies from people around us. Sometimes it can be good, sometimes it can be bad and sometimes it can build up.

It is important to find methods of release of repression.

The most simple and effective method is breath. To breathe. To consciously breathe. This is grounding. Do it in your day to day. Count 1-4 for your in-breath and also your out-breath and hold 1-4 before and after for a simple meditation that can ground you though-out your day.

Another way to release repression is through expression.

This can be music, art, dance, laughter, exercise - anything really that causes a release.

When we express it is best to become conscious of when we are doing it in order to limit it coming out from us when we don't want it to.

If repression is held, it can come out in negative ways. So we must learn to take responsibility of our repressions. It could come out in physically angry reactions to seemingly normal things or in annoying someone that doesn't want to be bothered, or even in the form of an overly cynical personality.

It is important to bring yourself back to the 'clear' state regularly. If you cannot find that 'clear' state then you must intensively express yourself in many forms in order to find it first. Give yourself the reference point of what it is to be truly grounded and then from there work towards maintaining it in your day to day life.

One effective means of release for me over the years has been automatic writing.

This is simply writing a page of whatever is on the top of your head. Do it daily. Write more if you feel the need. To ground yourself in the writing, write directly about what you feel, see, hear, taste and touch in the moment - then write about what your mind wanders to. Don't go into details if it requires energy to do so, just simply write as a flow and let it go onto the page.

It is not absolutely necessary but I encourage you to use a real pad and pen. It is very grounding to physically write something. If this is not available, do not be afraid to use the notepad app on your phone or computer but set aside a time in the day to relax with a cup of tea or coffee and to let it flow. In the morning when you have freshly awoken is ideal.

After getting used to the habit of doing this, it becomes more natural and the effectiveness of it becomes apparent.

Don't be afraid of what comes out. Just give it a go.

In love,

Monty
