In light of this, i therefore salute Flora Nwapa, Catherine Acholonu, I feoma Okoye, Stella Oyedepo and many others in the literary confraternity who has employed words, phrases, and sentence to re-engineer the psychi of an african woman.

The above mentioned writers in their art, challenge the subordinate position impose on women by the society and cultures.

The society and the culture has melted out some obnoxious practices like widow's rite, among igbos, female gender mutilation, child marriage and inheritance right in the west.

Literature as been a viable tool used to fight this menance. These artistic writing have helped to address the issues of women, enshrine in the sustainable development goals, especially the gender equality and female gender mutilation practices in africa.

Zulu sofola's play " the wedlock of the gods" explore the character of ogwuma to expose the predicament of the women in frican society, as they are given out for marriage to a person they don't love.

In the play, ogwuma is forced to marry udigwu, since her bride price is needed to cure her sick brother.

Poverty has been the major cause for child and forceful marriage in the african society with women has the victims.

Sofola uses ogwuma's character in the play to portray the womanist struggle for liberation. This was evidence in ogwuma's refusal to marry her late husband brother as the culture demand. But rather reiterate her love for uloko.

That gesture of her's go against the custom which bar women from self expression.

At this juncture, i will call on women to ask question as to;

What is wrong, if a woman should be the head of the family if they are the first born?.

What is wrong, if a woman is entitle to her father's inheritance?

What is wrong, if a woman marries the person she loved?.
