Love the ice cream analogy. To many authors are trying for vanilla flavored ice cream these days IMHO. Boring clear genre "show don't tell" stuff that nobody hates but that hardly anyone finds exceptional either. Personally when I seek out books to read, I love seeking out U shaped rated books. The kind of books that I know won't be like vanilla ice cream. I want fiction to be like jalapeno ice cream or salty licorice ice cream, the types of ice cream that you can only hate or love.
