"Writing is Thinking!" - A quote that is an inspiration to me and moved me to action

I recently heard the phrase "Writing is Thinking"... and that got me thinking. And then it got me writing (which leads to better thinking).

My son has been challenging me to keep a daily journal. Not a public one, but a private journal that helps me organize my goals and record my experiences. I know that writing makes a difference in what I can get done, but it's easy to put it off.

I was planning on getting set up with a personal wiki. I have pretty much decided on TiddlyWiki. But I needed to just start writing. So for the last two mornings I have been writing journal entries in LibreOffice Writer. It comes pre-installed on most versions of Linux. I even did my first entry on Windows (gasp!). The great thing about writing in LibreOffice is that you can just get started. It's a free download for all major operating systems and the file formats are open.

So I wrote each entry as a separate text document file in LibreOffice. I saved them and will eventually merge them into my personal wiki when I get that set up. The important thing is that I started writing.

Already, I accomplished some of my goals and I attribute that to putting those "inklings" in my head into solid thoughts in writing. I wanted to publish a video on Ubuntu MATE on a decentralized video platform. Last night I published my first video on #dlive:

Writing is an important, possibly vital, part of taking action to do the things that you want to do. You don't have to publish all of your writing. Some of it can be used to put down your thoughts, solidify them and determine a plan of action. Writing can be as simple as a todo list.

I got started and I plan to continue.
