My Trick to Becoming A Great Writer, Even If You Suck At English.

@stellabelle wrote a fantastic article about the importance of being a thinker, here, and how it's a crucial ingredient to becoming a great writer, this is so true, but being a great thinker doesn't mean much if you suck at English.

You can be the best thinker in the world but If your English is not up to scratch then the experience for the reader is like being fed lobster with a slingshot, it might taste great but it's still going to hurt.

I have been writing on steemit for 2 months now, and I wouldn't say I'm a great writer but I am becoming one and with 450 followers I must be doing something right, either that or I have 450 people who feel sorry for me and can just about tolerate me the same way a parent tolerates their child's learning to play the violin.

Yes, OK, I admit English is my first language but I had a somewhat dysfunctional childhood and never really went to school, so yes I can speak English, but reading and writing in this language of mine is like trying to make a brick smoothie, if I put a lot of effort in I manage to churn out some half decent posts, they're a bit lumpy but still digestible.

So how do you become a great writer even if your English sucks?

It's easy, you just cheat.

OK, so we all know about spell-checking and this is great but no amount of spell-check can fix bad grammar and to read a post with bad grammar is like listening to a drunk Russian explain how to make a brick smoothie, it just doesn't make sense.

This is where grammarly.com saved my life, Grammarly works just like a spell-check but as well as correcting your spelling it also points out your bad grammar, it's free and works flawlessly, I would suggest writing the post first and then running it through Grammarly as it can be a bit annoying when writing, a bit like when your Nan licks her thumb and tries to clean your face with it.

So now you should have the confidence to churn out as many brick smoothies as you please.

Peace and love to the World.

I can't help but want to hear your childhood story now.

I tried Grammerly for a bit, but for some reason it would change things and then a few moments later it would change it back. I should see if it had an update. Maybe its fixed. I miss it because it caught all sorts of mistakes.

Great tip! I'm following.

Yes, this this happens when you are writing on steemit or on word, but when you actually write the text through grammarly it does not happen.

Thanks for the interaction
