5 Pro Tips for Great Steemit Posts

I started my first blog in 1998, when most people were still asking what a blog was. It was on the, then infant, blogger network, before Google was even a blip, it may have barely existed. Since that time, I've published over 5 million words online, and in the course of that, I've learned a few tricks, most apply to every platform that exists, but tip #5 is just for Steemit users.

Tip #1 Write useful content

It's easy to be inflammatory and garner some early attention, but truly useful content will trump click bait every single time.

• Tell me something I didn't know
• Quote a quality source when appropriate
• Make your content evergreen and write to a specific audience

Tip #2 Make it scannable

Most other blogging platform have an interface that does almost 100% of your markup for you. On Steemit, you have to learn a bit to get the hang of it, but it helps.

• Write in short, easy to read sentences and paragraphs
• Use subheadings, or bold text to introduce new ideas
• Leave white space between segments for easy tracking

Tip #3 Put some meat in it

Tips are great, but go ahead and explain yourself fully. Each article should have a minimum of three subheads, and each subhead needs at least three points.

• Make sure each point is valid, and relevant
• Strive to share at least one uncommon fact in each subhead
• Share as many details as space allows to make your content truly useful

Tip #4 Avoid Complex language

Most experts agree that people are more likely to read articles written at about the eighth grade level. Don't be afraid to challenge readers, but do it in a way that's easy to understand.

• You lose many readers with grandiose verbage (see what I did there?)
• The smart readers won't mind easy, if it's good
• Good communication has to reach the audience to be successful

Tip #5 Use Stackedit.io editor

Unless your a geek, you're probably not going to learn markup, or at least not well enough to produce good looking content in Steemit. You'll limp along with a few tricks.
