You created so much tension in this story that you had to read to the end. Does it stand on its own as a short story - yes, maybe. If we take carrying the secret as the main point of the story. But so many unanswered questions in here.Which can be great and would be a great discussion in an English class - what did the author mean.... lol
But I could see it as part of several different books. Just the story how we got to this place and finding out who all the characters are will be fascinating.
Or the story of Monica as an adult and how those past experiences form her. So many possibilities there.
I hope the Isle of Write folks will look at your piece. did you enter it in the contest or just in the room asking for feedback?
This is a story to be revealed in drops of flashbacks IMO ..
I only entered this one in the fiction section asking for feedback. Had already entered an older piece for the contest (not through Discord), and I know they frown on multiple submissions for the contest.
Thanks very much for you feedback on the story, as well. I did write a little more, about the experience of Doyen Jan and his past - maybe I'll continue with it.
