We don't have to agree on anything to be kind to one another.

Today has been a bit heavy.

When did it become a normal and acceptable thing to start personally attacking someone simply because they have a different opinion than you??

I enjoy a good debate, I find them to be educational, and on occasion they even end up changing my opinion about the issue being discussed. There is a way to debate respectfully, people do it every day. Personal attacks are not needed to state your opinion. To be passionate about something is awesome, there are many things I feel passionate about that cause my emotional response to kick up a notch or five really fast.

If everyone had the same opinion about everything imagine how dull life would be. Most everyone can agree that some things are not debatable, abuse of any kind, neglecting kids, murder, theft.... I could go on and on, but I do not need to, you are all smart individuals and I am sure you are picking up what I am dropping down.

Most things can be debated intelligently and respectfully, but I do manage to get a bit carried away myself at times.

I had to get aggressive today, it is not something I am fond of doing, but it happens.

I get kind of protective sometimes for mostly good reasons. However, I too am only human and sometimes those pesky emotions make me get a bit intense. It all really boils down to the Title here "We don't have to agree on anything to be kind to one another". I would hope that anyone who knows me knows that I am open to discussing problems before they blow up into a full blown mess. I value people and their thoughts, and not to go all "Neegan" here but people are a resource.

You are important, You matter, You are enough.

Diversity is something that should be celebrated. Steemit and Discord has managed to educate me about many things that I was otherwise blind to. These things range from serious to fun, different cultures, current events in other countries, the different laws in different places, and also new music, food and art work. I am blessed to have met some fantastic people, some of them with opinions that were completely different than mine. Most everyone has been kind despite that differing of opinions.

Sidenote: You do not have to attend every argument you are invited to.

It took me years to get this through my head, but it is a valuable thing to remember.

Thanks for stopping by.

Yes, sometimes its best not to attend an argument... because it can be a large waste of time and energy and those are limited commodities for each and everyone of us!

You are so wise my friend, keep being you <3

It is the most essential thing to remember maybe even. Its a good quality on people when the also can stay silent sometimes. And knowing when to stop in your debate. You can only state your opinion once or twice, after that you will have to accept the fact the other person might not ever change their opinion.

And thats okay, thats why we are all different

I agree! It's like many people value more "being right" than actually communicating and connecting to another human being. That kind of people are more interested in attacking the other person instead of reviewing their argument, so they can learn/teach from it. I also concur in that you don't always have to attend every argument you are invited to, we tend to waste so much energy in trying to make people understand our point of view in an argument, that when the other person is just not interested in hearing our opinion but only in finding a way to "win" the argument, then it's just not worth it.

I couldn't agree more, @lilixblack. Sometimes some people lack respect for other people's opinions, viewpoint, style, that they tend to insist that they're right and the other is wrong, when in the first place the matter of who's right or wrong shouldn't exist.

I hope people learn the value of respect. If they can't appreciate, at least they learn to respect.

I am quite comfortable with the fact that there isn't always a right or wrong, there is often a large gray area that I am rather fond of exploring.

You certainly do not have to attend every argument you are invited to. Sometimes arguments are set up deliberately for your benefit, to draw you out and in some cases to cut you down to size.

Some persons do not know how to handle losing an argument. When they find that their case has fallen apart, they make it personal in order to hurt the feelings of the other person. They would cause pain than admit defeat, or accept that their opinions are wrong.

This does not stop us from being kind to each other. Even in times of war with all its atrocities, people still show kindness to strangers, to enemies even. What is in a debate?

I hope you are fine? @krazykrista?

I am fine thanks for the enquiry. It was a bit of a rough day, but today is a new one. Imagine what our world could like if more people were kind.

It is what the world need the most; kindness but it is getting harder and harder to come by as people are becoming more and more self involved.

It's so unfortunate that people have basically forgotten all about manners. Disagreements can certainly occur, but it's how we deal with them that truly shows our level of integrity. There are too many entitled people who are unable to demonstrate any level of empathy and are unable to see other peoples perspectives. I hope that many of those people are able to learn to be flexible in thought! Thanks for the post. -Respect

Thank you @krazykrista. (Not-so-krazy!) Much of the crux of what you are saying reflects back on a person's self-confidence. Those who are filled with self-doubt and low self-esteem, cannot bear to risk not being at the top of the heap. They erroneously believe that being right adds validity to who they are. And usually, the only way they feel "right" is to make you "wrong." Sad, but true.

I had never thought of it that way before, but it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for stopping by.

Very good illustration..we should love without boundaries and be kind for no reasons. It's when we start thinking in this line that we can have a better world!

It’s true, people are not their opinions

I wrote a similar article on this. If we were meant to agree all the time with each other, then we may as well be clones. Being different means having different opinions, and tolerance means respecting the right to ones views

I would love to give it a read, care to link it here?

Thanks for sharing with me, your article is good. I agree with you, for me, the difference is beautiful, the difference that makes us all united, both in a family and a country. The difference will bring many interesting ideas. There is nothing wrong with the difference. Thanks again @krazykrista

Hey thank you :) I appreciate you stopping by and giving it a read.
