Late-night thoughts on the meaning of love

in #writing7 years ago

Love. A word so often used, and so little understood.

Love. A word that can feel meaningless in a world that has cheapened it to mere emotion.

Love. A word that has been abused and so can deeply hurt us to hear.

Love. A word that contains everything and yet barely grasps itself.

Love. The relating of one heart to another in honest affection.

Love. The seeking of the true good of the other at all costs.

Love. The fibre that tethers the mother to the child.

Love. The unseen thread between an aged couple 50 years strong after many trials.

Love. The passion that drives a man to pour his life savings into an orphanage in Eastern Europe.

Love. The child nestled in pure trust and safety in her grandfather’s arms.

Love. The spontaneous force that pulls us out of our self-focus.

Love. The energy that drives us to give ourselves radically and restoratively.

Love. The power that frees us from our nihilism and hopelessness.

Love. The source of encouragement in the darkest of times.

Love. The willingness to sacrifice in order to give to another in need.

Love. The taste of a meal cooked with care and attention.

Love. When a friend tells you you are “shinier” than you think you are.

Love. The undeserved but given second chances.

Love. The taste of joy in truly knowing and being known.

Love. The beginning and ending of everything.

Love. The source and the point of it all.

Love. The heartbeat of existence.

Love.

Love.

Xx, Kay

Beautifully written! Put a smile on my face! Cheer Kay!

Yes, people have lost the real sense of the word, often replacing it with simple self gratification or lust.

It's why genuine friendships almost don't exist anymore, and everyone thinks the minute you care about another human being, it's automatically "romantic" ... because how can you possibly actually care about someone, unless you're in lust with them, right? They've lost the whole concept that you can care deeply about other people without it being anything like that. That love can be like that. That friendship is platonic LOVE, not just a body with a pulse to watch movies with.

Sad, because the human heart will always seek the real thing, but today it's become so rare!

I know. It really is so sad.. I was hoping this post would get a little more attention than it did, just because it's such an important thing. Thanks for all of your lovely comments!

Love is quite beautiful isn't it?

It is so rich and incredible and eternal. So beautiful.

Simply, love it! :)
There is nothing greater than love. Unconditional love above all!

I'm speechless 😢😧😧

What a kind thing to stop by and say. Thank you. xx
