The Christmas Party

in #writing7 years ago

Topically, things to talk about at Christmas parties, well, I did my best with some cryptocurrency ambits, but my nephew, Cathal, who works for Sony, was the only person who appeared interested. Topically, my sister-in-law, Anna, a lawyer for ASIC, was non-responsive as she was heading to the airport to catch a flight to Rio de Janeiro at midnight. Topically, she pooh-poohed one of my choices in cryptocurrency buys and told me her opinion, repeatedly.

Topically, I said to my other sister-in-law, Bridget, who had had too much to drink that when she and my brother retire, they can come and live with me. Topically, I repeated this invitation to my brother, Ciaran, in case Bridget was too drunk to remember, and he said he was going to have to work till he died, so wouldn’t be retiring. Topically, he was scheduled to have an operation on his pancreas in the New Year. Topically, I’d overheard my brother-in-law, Nim, who is a surgeon and owns his own hospital, say, “If I thought your drinking had any effect on your pancreatic condition, I’d have advised you to quit drinking and smoking at the start.”

Topically, my daughter, Laura, asked in the car on the way home, “Seriously, Mum, can you not go five minutes without talking about Bitcoin?” Topically, I went with her to look at the harbourside unit in Balmain she wishes she could buy and told her if she waited a year, I might buy one, too.

That was very good! I like the ending! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, @simgirl, for your response. Sorry for my tardiness in replying. I've been out a lot, lately - commingling festively in the tangible world, but will make more time for Steem this week :) Following you :)

The above post is my entry to the constrained writing contest No. 8 at https://steemit.com/constrainedwriting/@svashta/writing-contest-constrained-writing-8-scaling-reward-system in which every sentence must start with the same word, and the story must be more than 250 words. My entry, above, contains a constrained 251.

Oh my! Definitely didn't think you would use "topically" as your word :D But I'm happy you did! :D Is the story true or fiction, though? I really can't tell.
psssst ... Why talk about Bitcoin when you can talk about Steem? ;)

Thank you very much for your entry! :D

P.S.: And the 251 words? Somehow this gives me an idea for the next writing contest.... Stay tuned ;)

Hi @svashta, sorry for tardiness in response. I've been socialising a lot lately, and been online less. Yes, story is true :) And yes, I should have talked about Steem...but really, I was talking more about cryptocurrency in general - BTC is like the hashtag of crypto....
