A brief guide on updating Amazon keywords for erotica
I think I strained my fingers from writing too much and now two days after my massive writing experience I'm sore in my pinkies and wrists. Why oh why didn't i dictate on Sunday!? What was I thinking. Why aren't i doing it now?
There we go, so much better. Now I can write with ease while talking into my microphone and not having to deal with my sore hands and fingers. That was a marathon of writing! Unfortunately, and I know you're not supposed to use that word, but unfortunately I only had 282 page reads since it went live. I think this is a good thing, but I believe it is only one person reading my book on Kindle unlimited.
And I thought that because it was such a key word laden book title that I would get immediate views and lots of exposure.
It has not, yet.
I promised yesterday that I would go in depth with my keyword use, and figured today would be a good example of what you should do. You see, yesterday I also went through all of my books in updated the keywords to be more reflective of Amazons preferred format.
When you're publishing a new book you get seven fields in which you can write keywords, or short phrases. How I first started publishing I had no idea what this actually meant. In fact, I did a lot of research and came up with bad answers. That led me to put in terrible keywords that obscured and kept my stuff from being displayed prominently.
Here is an example of a couple of my keywords:
"ass girl young fuck butt anal sex"
"halloween fuck sex teen ghost vampire shifter"
"werewolf girl sex skirt tight cum butt"
you can see, that they are just a string of keywords much like you would do in tags, or if you are just writing to get hits on this particular terms. Amazon does not work that way. Instead, the keywords action while able to be filled with multiple words is not designed for that reason.
Instead, you should think of the keywords as tags similar to steemit.com tags. You should use one word, or at most three words to explicitly express what you are referring to. The goal is to be as specific as possible. Amazon states you should be writing your keywords as if you were the readers searching for topics you want to read about. That means if you look at the list I wrote above, nobody would put that specific string of words together while looking for a book. Instead, they would put in something more direct like:
"first time anal"
"brat anal"
"thumb in butt"
"accidental anal"
"teen blowjob"
"big dick"
the best part about the Amazon keyword structure, is that if it is in your title and is automatically a key word by itself, that is each individual word is a keyword that is searchable and shows up like tags on Amazon. You can use your keywords to supplement your title to get more exposure. So for example if your title was "My neighbor's backdoor bargain: a brat submits to older man romance" you would not need to use any of those words in your keywords section. Instead, you would add additional words like "anal" "blackmail" "blowjob" "young girl" "teen model" or "first time."
I found a good way to choose keywords was to go on Amazon with an incognito, or in private window and do searches for books that you think would describe yours. Type into the search box some general terms that you think your book should show up under. Amazon will tell you how many other surgeons meet that criteria. If there is a huge number of searches and hits then you know that you might get lost in the sea. However, if you have a smaller number of hits then your book is more likely to show up first as it will match those simple key terms.
I am by no means an expert, but I figured I would share my experiences with this so you can benefit from the mistakes I made initially setting up my books.
On top of publishing and writing almost 12,000 words, I went through and updated all of my books to have effective keywords. They should be updated now and live, and I'm hoping to have more exposure and sales this coming week. As always I will keep you updated, and thank you for following.
Oh, I got further and Scott and Aubriane's story. Scott is a huge creeping pervert that I'm enjoying writing about; he is a bit of a sicko though video taping Aubriane when she is outside and masturbagting to the videos later. Makes for good erotica, kinda skin crawling weird.
I didn't know this either about keywords. Thanks.
You start off with stained fingers, and you next post, your poem refers to thumbs. Are these secret messages?
