"Ephemeral Standards"... ¿WHY? just why?

No matter how hard we try, nor how much we wish it were so, Time will not
Stop for anyone. All our hard fought battles to remain youthful looking,
Will eventually crack, crumble and leave us disappointed, so why do
We give so much importance, such value to our appearances? We
Know that the outward, visible body doesn’t in any way show
The beauty, the value and worth of the person inside. It has
Been a puzzle to me for some time now. Exactly where
DID our standards of what is beautiful in a person’s
Outward appearances come from? Why is it so
Dramatically different for men and women?
If a woman,
Dresses in men’s clothes,
She is austere.
If a man,
Dresses in Women’s clothes,
He is a pervert.

Who imposed these
Standards and for
what reasons?
Are they truly
Productive?

Editorial comments

The human race is divided, more or less equally in half, by the two sexes.
Both have more or less the same abilities and capabilities. There are neurological differences, dictated by the hormonal requirements of our reproductive systems

Due to Societal Imperatives, one of the two groups (in the Western world), devotes a
Significant amount of Physical Time and Effort, not to mention
Attention, Thought and Brain Power, to some very ephemeral, Seemingly
unimportant aspects of our existence.
There was a time when, the female had to spend this time and effort to attract the best mate,
Or so that was the accepted theory (in practice this hasn't worked out so well for the species)

This is No Longer The Case

So why is this waste of time perpetuated? Can't both men and women realize that the
TRUE VALUE of a person is not the external appearance, but the INNER SPIRIT?
