i'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'panel of imaginary mentors' but my real life mentor is actually my girlfriend. (true story) . She started writing short stories since she learned the alphabet and never gave up on the dream. Now she has a published book full of short stories that brings most of the food we put on the table. I make a decent living as well, but the apprentice has yet to beat the master.
